LEH: In a bid to strengthen Bhoti language education across Ladakh, the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Leh, has launched two parallel six-day capacity-building programmes for 230 Bhoti teachers from across the six educational zones of Leh district, focusing on language proficiency, pedagogy and classroom instruction.
The training programmes, which commenced on July 20, are being conducted for teachers from Nyoma, Durbuk, Kharu, Leh, Khaltsi and Nubra. While 150 Primary and Middle School teachers are attending sessions at the DIET Leh campus, 80 High and Higher Secondary School teachers are participating in a parallel programme at the Conference Hall of the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa (NISR), Leh.
The programmes were inaugurated by S.D. Namgail, Principal, DIET Leh, in the presence of chief resource persons Gen Mengchung La, General Secretary, Executive Management, Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV), Dharamshala, and Nawang Chimba from TCV, Dharamshala.
Addressing the participants, Namgail underscored the importance of continuous professional development and highlighted DIET Leh’s initiatives to promote and preserve the Bhoti language. He informed the teachers about the institute’s ongoing work in developing Bhoti textbooks, teaching-learning materials and other academic resources aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and urged them to apply the skills acquired during the programme to improve classroom teaching.
According to DIET Leh, the training for Primary and Middle School teachers includes intensive sessions on Bhoti calligraphy, handwriting skills and innovative teaching methodologies, to be conducted by Nawang Chimba with the objective of strengthening pedagogical competencies.
The programme for High and Higher Secondary School teachers features specialised sessions by Gen Mengchung La on Bhoti poetry, prose writing, grammar and learner-centred teaching methodologies aimed at enhancing language proficiency, literary understanding and classroom effectiveness.
