38 Farmers join natural farming drive under Khet Bachao Abhiyan

LEH: The Agriculture Department, Leh Zone, on Wednesday organised a Khet Bachao Abhiyan programme coupled with a demonstration on Natural Farming practices at Nang village, with experts urging farmers to adopt sustainable cultivation methods and reduce dependence on chemical inputs.

The programme was conducted under the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Leh, and focused on promoting soil health management, resource conservation and environmentally sustainable farming practices.

Addressing the participants, Agriculture Extension Officer Leh, Tsering Dolkar, briefed farmers about various agriculture-related schemes being implemented by the department for their benefit. She also conducted practical demonstrations on the preparation and application of Jeevamrit and Beejamrit, natural formulations widely used to improve soil fertility, strengthen crop health and support sustainable agricultural production.

Scientist at KVK Leh, Dr. Diskit Dolkar, highlighted the objectives of the Khet Bachao Abhiyan and stressed the importance of safeguarding agricultural land and conserving natural resources. She emphasised that adoption of eco-friendly farming practices is essential for ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability, particularly in ecologically sensitive regions such as Ladakh.

The programme witnessed active participation from 38 farmers, who interacted with the resource persons and sought guidance on implementing Natural Farming techniques in their fields. Participants expressed interest in adopting the practices demonstrated during the session and appreciated the department’s efforts to promote sustainable agriculture at the grassroots level.

Officials said the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to encourage climate-resilient farming practices and strengthen awareness among farmers about sustainable agricultural technologies capable of enhancing productivity while preserving environmental resources.
