KARGIL: As part of its ongoing urban beautification initiative, the District Administration Kargil on Wednesday launched a plantation drive across major road stretches in the town, with around 500 flower saplings planted to improve the city’s landscape and public spaces.
The plantation campaign was inaugurated by Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Kargil, Ghulam Mohd, who oversaw the drive aimed at enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the town through increased greenery.
The flower saplings, supplied by the Forest Division Kargil, were planted along the stretch from Lok Niwas to Shilikchay Bypass Bridge, covering Iqbal Bridge, the Military Engineering Services (MES) area, Bus Stand Kargil, and other prominent locations in the town.
The initiative forms part of the district administration’s broader efforts to improve the urban environment and create cleaner, greener public spaces.
Earlier, the administration had undertaken the removal of disused electricity and telecom poles, overhead wires and related infrastructure from various parts of the town to improve civic aesthetics and streamline urban infrastructure.
The plantation drive is expected to complement these measures by enhancing the visual appeal of Kargil while contributing to environmental improvement.
