Acting CEC Kargil visits flash flood-hit villages, directs early restoration of essential services

KARGIL: Acting Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Aga Syed Mujtaba Musavi, on Monday visited the flash flood-affected villages of Karkit Badgam and Hardass to assess the extent of damage and review restoration measures, directing departments to expedite the restoration of essential public services and infrastructure.

Accompanied by Executive Councillor Altaf Hussain and senior officials from multiple departments, Musavi conducted an on-the-spot inspection of the affected areas and reviewed the impact of the flash floods on public infrastructure and local communities.

The visiting team included the Executive Engineer, Roads and Buildings (R&B), Assistant Executive Engineer, Public Health Engineering (PHE), Junior Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC), besides officials from the Agriculture, Horticulture and Revenue Departments.

During the visit, the Acting CEC interacted with affected families and local residents, listened to their concerns and assured them that the Council and the district administration would extend all possible assistance to support relief, restoration and rehabilitation efforts.

He instructed the concerned departments to accelerate the restoration of drinking water supply, electricity, link roads, irrigation infrastructure and other essential public utilities to facilitate an early return to normalcy in the affected villages.

Executive Councillor Altaf Hussain, who represents the Chuliskambu Constituency, said a comprehensive long-term plan would be prepared for the permanent restoration of damaged irrigation canals and other public infrastructure. He added that the plan would be developed in consultation with the local community to ensure sustainable infrastructure development, improve disaster resilience and reduce the impact of similar natural disasters in the future.

The visiting delegation reiterated its commitment to supporting the affected families and ensuring the timely restoration of public infrastructure, essential services and livelihood support through coordinated action by all concerned departments.
