LEH: Social activist Ghulam Mohammad Ladakhi has called for a thorough investigation and legal action in connection with the alleged desecration of a sacred religious symbol at Hardass Bridge in Kargil, describing the incident as deeply hurtful to the sentiments of devotees and mourners.
In a statement issued on Friday, Ladakhi condemned what he termed the desecration of the Alam-e-Hussain at the bridge site and urged the authorities to identify those responsible and initiate action in accordance with the law.
The activist said the incident had caused anguish within sections of the community and expressed concern over the emotional impact on local residents, particularly women and elderly members of society. He maintained that the matter had hurt religious sentiments and warranted a prompt response from the administration.
Calling for a transparent and impartial inquiry, Ladakhi urged the authorities to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure accountability. He stressed that any attempt to provoke religious feelings or create divisions within society must be dealt with firmly under the law.
Referring to Ladakh’s tradition of communal harmony and peaceful coexistence, he appealed for measures that would help preserve social cohesion and prevent the recurrence of similar incidents in the future.
Ladakhi also urged both the Kargil district administration and the Union Territory administration to undertake a comprehensive investigation and take appropriate steps to address public concerns arising from the incident.
