Administration conducts cleanliness drive from Khardong La to T-Mord

NUBRA: The Nubra district administration has intensified its campaign to improve environmental sanitation along one of Ladakh’s busiest tourist corridors, undertaking a two-day cleanliness drive and waste collection campaign from Khardong La Top to T-Mord while directing tourism stakeholders to adopt stricter waste management practices.

The campaign, conducted on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Nubra Mukul Beniwal, IAS, covered the entire roadside stretch from Khardong La Top through North Pullu, Khardong Village and Khalsar Village before extending to T-Mord. Public areas adjoining the route were also cleared of litter as part of the coordinated sanitation exercise.

As part of measures to strengthen waste collection, carry bags were distributed at the North Pullu Army area to facilitate proper disposal of garbage and encourage responsible waste management among commuters and visitors travelling through the high-altitude route.

The administration also instructed shopkeepers and hotel owners operating along the corridor to install dustbins at their establishments and ensure systematic disposal of waste to maintain hygienic surroundings in tourist and commercial areas.

In a move aimed at reducing roadside litter, the Taxi Union and Tempo Traveller Union were directed to ensure that every vehicle carries garbage bags and that their use is made mandatory for collecting and disposing of waste generated during travel.

Officials said the campaign was implemented with the active participation of government departments and other stakeholders, reflecting a coordinated approach towards improving sanitation standards and protecting the fragile mountain ecosystem.

The district administration said the initiative forms part of its continuing efforts to promote responsible waste management, encourage community participation and preserve a clean and environmentally sustainable landscape across Nubra district.
