Organised under the supervision of the Block Medical Officer, Sankoo, the programme witnessed the participation of a large number of girl students and focused on promoting healthy lifestyles, informed decision-making and positive behavioural practices during adolescence.

Consultant Gynecologist at Community Health Centre (CHC) Sankoo, Dr. Rubiya Banoo, served as the resource person and sensitised students about the physical, emotional and psychological changes experienced during adolescence. She highlighted the importance of balanced nutrition, regular physical activity and personal hygiene in maintaining overall health and well-being.

Dr. Banoo also conducted a detailed session on menstrual hygiene, stressing the importance of safe menstrual practices and addressing common myths and misconceptions associated with menstruation. She encouraged students to adopt healthy habits and seek accurate information on reproductive and adolescent health.

The programme also featured an interactive session by Fatima Kaneez, Counsellor at CHC Sankoo, who discussed mental health issues affecting adolescents, including emotional stress, peer pressure, self-image concerns and the importance of open communication with parents, teachers and caregivers.

Highlighting the growing concern of substance abuse among young people, the counsellor cautioned students against drug addiction and urged them to make responsible and informed life choices. She emphasised the importance of mental resilience and healthy coping mechanisms in dealing with social and academic pressures.

Students actively participated in the discussions and interacted with the resource persons, seeking guidance on issues related to health, hygiene and emotional well-being.

Officials said the programme was aimed at equipping adolescents with essential knowledge and life skills to navigate the challenges of growing up while fostering awareness about preventive healthcare and mental wellness.

The organisers expressed gratitude to Block Medical Officer Sankoo, Dr. Zahida Khatun, and the resource persons for their support in conducting the awareness programme.
