DRASS: The Agriculture Department, Drass began a five-day farmer exposure programme to Kargil aimed at strengthening farmers’ knowledge of modern agricultural practices through field visits, practical learning and interaction with agricultural experts and progressive farmers.
The programme, scheduled from September 17 to 21, was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Drass Imteeaz Kacho, along with Tehsildar (HQ) Abdul Aziz, in the presence of officers and officials of the Agriculture Department.
The exposure visit is designed to provide participating farmers with practical knowledge of improved farming techniques and an opportunity to observe agricultural practices and technologies being adopted in Kargil.
Agriculture Extension Officer, Drass, Stanzin Idong, briefed the farmers on the itinerary and activities planned during the five-day programme.
As part of the visit, the farmers will visit Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), SKUAST, interact with progressive farmers and undertake an exposure visit to Kurbathang Farm.
They will also attend the Kisan Mela in Kargil, where they are expected to gain exposure to agricultural technologies, government schemes, improved farm practices and innovations.
The programme seeks to combine field-level learning with practical demonstrations, expert interaction and peer-to-peer exchange, enabling farmers to learn from both agricultural institutions and fellow practitioners.
The Agriculture Department said the exposure programme is intended to strengthen farmers’ skills and knowledge and facilitate greater awareness of practices that can be adapted to local farming conditions.
