Leh, June 24: Senior IPS officer Anand Jain on Tuesday assumed charge as the new Director General of Police (DGP), Ladakh, ushering in a new leadership chapter for the Union Territory’s police force.
Jain, a 1999-batch IPS officer, took over at the Police Headquarters in Leh, where the charge was formally handed over by Deputy Inspector General of Police Dr. Kaushal Sharma, who had been serving as the Incharge DGP. Senior police officers attended the ceremony.
With decades of experience in policing and security administration, Jain brings to Ladakh an extensive service record shaped by key assignments in Jammu and Kashmir. During his career, he has served as Additional Director General (ADG) Armed, ADG Jammu, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu, besides holding several other important operational and administrative positions.
His appointment comes at a time when Ladakh continues to occupy strategic importance owing to its sensitive geographical location and evolving security requirements. Police officials expressed confidence that Jain’s experience in law enforcement, security management and organisational leadership would further strengthen policing mechanisms and public safety initiatives across the Union Territory.
Known for handling diverse policing assignments, Jain is expected to focus on enhancing operational preparedness, improving public service delivery and strengthening institutional capabilities within the Ladakh Police.
The change of guard also marks the conclusion of the interim tenure of Dr. Kaushal Sharma, who oversaw the functioning of the force as Incharge DGP until the appointment of a regular police chief.
