LEH: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Ladakh has recovered an intermediate quantity of suspected heroin from a vehicle during naka checking at Phyang Police Check Post (PCP) in Leh, leading to the registration of a case under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to the ANTF, a police party intercepted an Alto vehicle bearing registration number LA-02-9253, which was travelling from Srinagar towards Leh, during checking at Phyang PCP.
Three persons were travelling in the vehicle, the police said.
During the search, personnel recovered a transparent polythene packet containing a cream-coloured substance suspected to be heroin from the dashboard of the vehicle. A preliminary test of the recovered substance was conducted and it was found prima facie positive for heroin, according to the police.
The ANTF subsequently registered an FIR under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Police Station ANTF Ladakh.
Further investigation into the case is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the recovery and determine the source and intended destination of the suspected contraband.
The ANTF Ladakh reiterated its zero-tolerance approach towards drug abuse and drug trafficking and said enforcement efforts against narcotics would continue.
