CHUSHUL: Residents of Chushul village on Sunday pledged to reduce the use of single-use plastics and adopt sustainable alternatives during an awareness campaign organised to strengthen public participation in the implementation of the ban on disposable plastic products.
Held under the guidance of the village Numberdar, the campaign focused on sensitising the community to the environmental, ecological and public health consequences of single-use plastic while encouraging the adoption of environmentally responsible practices at the household and community levels.
Addressing the gathering, Panchayat Inspector Sonam Tundup said the continued use of single-use plastics posed a serious threat to the environment, wildlife and public health. Stressing the need for collective action, he urged residents to replace disposable plastic items with cloth bags, reusable containers and other sustainable alternatives, while also adopting scientific waste management practices to preserve the village’s natural surroundings.
He appealed to the villagers to extend their support to the government’s ongoing efforts to eliminate single-use plastics and work collectively towards making Chushul a plastic-free village through sustained community participation.
The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from villagers, who resolved to minimise their dependence on disposable plastic products and contribute to maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge by the participants to promote responsible consumption, encourage the use of reusable materials and support community-led environmental conservation initiatives aimed at safeguarding the ecologically sensitive region.
