KARGIL: A Tiranga Yatra organised by the BJP Kargil on Thursday drew participation from party workers, youth, traders, social organisations, civil society members and residents from across the district, with the march concluding at TFC Bemathang amid calls for national unity, communal harmony and adherence to constitutional values.
The Yatra, organised under the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan as part of the Independence Day celebrations, began at the Old Taxi Stand and passed through the main areas of Kargil town. Participants carried the National Flag and raised patriotic slogans during the march.
BJP Kargil District President Assadullah Munshi led the programme. Addressing participants, he described the Tricolour as a symbol of India’s sovereignty and unity and recalled the sacrifices of freedom fighters and soldiers who laid down their lives for the country.
Munshi said the National Flag also reminded citizens of their responsibilities towards the country and the need to uphold democracy, national unity and territorial integrity. He called upon people, particularly the youth, to contribute to nation-building and work towards a strong, developed and self-reliant India.
He said the response to the Yatra reflected the patriotic sentiment and national commitment of people in Kargil, while describing the district as a place associated with courage and sacrifice.
Munshi also stressed the need for citizens to collectively uphold national unity, communal harmony and constitutional values.
The programme was attended by Nominated Councillor Reyaz Ahmed Khan, BJP Kargil Prabhari Ashraf Ali, Haj Committee UT Ladakh member Ghulam Mohammad, former Haj Committee chairman Ali Majaz, Mahila Morcha president and Haj Committee member Zahra Banoo, former Haj Committee member Zahir Hussain Babar, former Executive Councillor LAHDC Leh Mumtaz Ali and former LAHDC Kargil councillor Leela Banoo.
Mandal presidents, senior party functionaries, BJP workers and supporters also participated in the Yatra.
The march culminated at TFC Bemathang, where participants collectively reaffirmed their commitment to India’s unity, sovereignty and integrity and pledged to contribute to the country’s progress and prosperity.
The BJP Kargil leadership thanked citizens, youth, traders, social organisations, volunteers, party workers and media representatives for their participation. It also acknowledged the assistance provided by the district administration, police and other agencies in ensuring the smooth and peaceful conduct of the programme.
The event concluded with the National Anthem and Vande Mataram, followed by patriotic slogans and a collective resolve to uphold unity, harmony and inclusive development.
