LEH: BJP Ladakh President Tashi Gyaltson Khachu, accompanied by former Chief Executive Councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyaltson, attended the annual Hemis Festival at the historic Hemis Monastery, joining devotees in one of Ladakh’s most prominent Buddhist religious and cultural celebrations.
The festival, held on June 24, was attended by Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena as the Chief Guest and brought together religious leaders, public representatives, devotees and visitors for the annual observance, which is rooted in the region’s centuries-old Buddhist traditions.
During the celebrations, Tashi Gyaltson Khachu and other BJP leaders witnessed the traditional Cham mask dances performed by monks, participated in the religious ceremonies and offered prayers for peace, harmony, prosperity and the well-being of the people of Ladakh.
Former CEC Adv. Tashi Gyaltson also joined the observances alongside party leaders, reflecting the BJP’s participation in one of the Union Territory’s major cultural and spiritual events.
Celebrated annually at Hemis Monastery, the Hemis Festival commemorates Guru Padmasambhava and is regarded as one of Ladakh’s foremost monastic festivals. The event is renowned for its sacred rituals, traditional Buddhist performances and vibrant cultural expressions, drawing devotees and tourists from across India and abroad.
The festival concluded with religious ceremonies that reaffirmed the enduring significance of Ladakh’s Buddhist heritage and the continuing appeal of the Hemis Festival as a major spiritual and cultural gathering.
