BJP Sankoo delegation meets Adv Tashi Gyalson, seeks district status for Sankoo

Lamayuru and Wanla Monasteries laud Gyalson’s support

LEH: A BJP delegation from Sankoo has sought district status for the area from former Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the BJP-led LAHDC Leh, Adv Tashi Gyalson, while representatives of Lamayuru and Wanla monasteries separately met him and acknowledged his contribution to administrative reforms and support for religious institutions during his tenure.

The Sankoo delegation submitted a memorandum to Gyalson and urged him to raise the demand at the appropriate platform. The monastery delegation, meanwhile, expressed appreciation for his role in matters concerning the expansion of LAHDCs, the High Court sitting bench in Ladakh and Nautor land reforms, besides his support for the monasteries and monks.

The Sankoo delegation was led by Mandal President Sadiq Aki and included former BDC member Akhone Mehdi Ali, Co-Secretary Khadim Hussain, Secretary Abbas Ali, Habibullah, former Barsoo president Abdul Hamid, Barsoo Mandal Secretary Ghulam Haider, Mandal Lankartse Haji Hadi and Nambardar Sankoo Thangdumbur.

During the meeting, the delegation expressed confidence in Gyalson to pursue the district-status demand and sought his intervention in taking the matter forward.

The delegation also credited Gyalson with a number of developments during his tenure as Chairman/CEC, including domicile laws, district notifications and the extension of LAHDCs to all seven districts of Ladakh.

It also referred to 33 per cent reservation for women in LAHDCs, proposals relating to Article 371 safeguards and a UT-level elected body with legislative, financial and executive powers, Nautor land reforms and the High Court sitting bench in Ladakh.

Responding to the delegation, Gyalson said the BJP remained committed to equitable development across Ladakh as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat vision.

He said the empowerment of Sankoo remained a priority, according to the statement.

Monastery representatives meet Gyalson

Earlier, a delegation from Lamayuru and Wanla monasteries met Gyalson and expressed appreciation for his work during his tenure as Chairman/CEC of LAHDC Leh.

The delegation was led by Lhopon Konchok Tsephel, Todam Deldan Namgail and LGA member Ven Konchok Chosphel.

The representatives credited Gyalson with efforts towards the establishment of LAHDCs across all seven districts of Ladakh and the subsequent issuance of the Gazette notification.

They also acknowledged his role in bringing a High Court sitting bench to Ladakh and introducing reform-oriented regulations relating to Nautor land. The monastery representatives further thanked Gyalson for the support extended to Lamayuru and Wanla monasteries and for measures concerning the welfare of monks during his tenure.
