NEW DELHI: An internal report prepared by the Delhi Police on the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar has claimed that 2,873 identified participants were found to have criminal records, according to sources familiar with the document submitted to the government.
The report, which is yet to be officially released, reportedly draws on data obtained through the Crime-Kundli database and police dossiers to assess the backgrounds of individuals identified at the protest. According to the document, 2,402 participants were identified through the Crime-Kundli system, while 471 were traced through police dossiers.
The internal assessment categorises the identified individuals under various offence heads. As per the figures contained in the report, 101 individuals were linked to cases of murder, 62 to attempt to murder, 284 to dacoity and robbery, 61 to rape, six to offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 25 to molestation of women, 229 to cases registered under the Arms Act, 135 to snatching, 19 to kidnapping, and 67 to offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The report further states that 1,884 individuals had cases registered under other provisions of the Indian Penal Code, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and special laws.
According to sources, the report has been submitted to the government as part of an internal assessment following the protest. The document reportedly examines the backgrounds of those identified through facial recognition and police records.
However, the contents of the report have not been independently verified, and Delhi Police has not issued any official public statement confirming or elaborating on the findings. It is also not clear from the available information whether the cited criminal cases are pending, under investigation, have resulted in convictions or acquittals, or whether they bear any direct connection to the protest.
The figures and categorisation are based on the contents of the purported internal report and information provided by official sources.
