NYOMA, July 1: Calling for stricter enforcement of the ban on single-use plastic and stronger measures to curb littering, Deputy Commissioner Changthang Nitish Rajora, IAS, on Wednesday directed officials to intensify efforts to improve solid waste management through coordinated action across the subdivision.
Chairing a review meeting at his office, the Deputy Commissioner emphasised the need to strengthen waste collection, segregation and scientific disposal practices to ensure cleaner public spaces and sustainable sanitation management in Changthang.
He also underscored the importance of proper installation and regular maintenance of dustbins at public locations, stating that an efficient waste collection system is essential for maintaining cleanliness and preventing indiscriminate dumping of waste.
Reviewing the existing waste management framework, Rajora instructed the concerned departments to ensure strict enforcement of penalties against littering and reiterated that the prohibition on single-use plastic must be implemented effectively across the subdivision.
The Deputy Commissioner directed all departments to work in close coordination to improve sanitation standards, prevent littering and ensure full compliance with the ban on single-use plastic.
The meeting was attended by the Block Development Officers of Rong and Nyoma, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Nyoma, and the Naib Tehsildars of Nyoma and Hanle.
