Matayin Legends chase 210 to lift Drass Premier League title

DRASS: Matayin Legends pulled off a remarkable run chase to defeat Friends Club Drass in a high-scoring final and lift the Drass Premier League (DPL) title, as Deputy Commissioner Drass, Imteeaz Kacho, called for making inter-district cricket tournaments an annual feature to promote sporting talent in the region.

The Deputy Commissioner attended the final at KBS Cricket Stadium as the chief guest, where he witnessed an intense contest that culminated in Matayin Legends successfully chasing a formidable target of 210 runs within the allotted 20 overs. The closing stages of the match featured aggressive stroke play and determined batting, providing spectators with a dramatic finish.

The tournament was organised by the Adventure Association of Ladakh and brought together local cricket enthusiasts, players and sports lovers. Councillor, LAHDC, Bhimbat Constituency, Abdul Wahid, along with other dignitaries, was also present during the concluding ceremony.

Addressing the gathering after the match, Imteeaz Kacho congratulated both finalist teams for their spirited performances and expressed confidence in the ability of young cricketers from Drass to compete at higher levels of the game.

Appreciating the efforts of the Adventure Association of Ladakh for successfully organising the tournament, the Deputy Commissioner proposed that inter-district cricket tournaments be hosted in Drass every year, with the KBS Cricket Stadium serving as a regular venue for competitive events.

He also urged young players to remain committed to sports and maintain a healthy lifestyle, encouraging them to pursue cricket and other games with dedication while staying away from substance abuse.

Speaking on the occasion, Councillor Abdul Wahid congratulated the participating teams and organisers for the successful conduct of the tournament. He underscored the need to strengthen sports infrastructure across Drass, saying improved facilities at multiple locations would help nurture emerging talent and encourage greater youth participation in sporting activities. The Drass Premier League concluded with the presentation of prizes to the finalists, marking another edition of the tournament aimed at promoting grassroots cricket and fostering a vibrant sporting culture in the region.
