NCORD Council meeting reviews Drug trafficking trends across Sham District

KHALTSI: Stressing that coordinated enforcement, sustained public awareness and timely implementation of decisions are essential to tackling drug abuse and illicit trafficking, Deputy Commissioner of Sham, Kunzes Angmo (JKAS) on Wednesday directed all stakeholder departments to intensify anti-drug interventions across the district, with particular focus on educational institutions and rural areas.

Chairing the second meeting of the District Level Narco Coordination (NCORD) Committee at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Khaltsi, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the implementation of decisions taken during the committee’s inaugural meeting held on July 6 and assessed the Action Taken Report submitted by the concerned departments.

Reviewing the progress achieved so far, Kunzes Angmo emphasised that all departments must ensure the timely execution of assigned responsibilities while strengthening coordination to build an effective and sustained response against narcotics-related activities.

The meeting examined intelligence inputs on emerging drug trafficking patterns, reviewed the status of investigations involving cross-state links and assessed the conduct of anti-drug awareness campaigns being carried out in villages through coordinated efforts between the Police and other departments.

The Committee also deliberated on measures to strengthen drug demand reduction initiatives by enhancing collaboration among stakeholder departments responsible for prevention, rehabilitation, awareness generation and enforcement.

Calling for a comprehensive approach, the Deputy Commissioner directed departments to expand awareness campaigns in schools, colleges and villages, reinforce intelligence-sharing mechanisms and ensure prompt follow-up on the decisions adopted during the meeting. She underlined the need to protect young people from substance abuse through sustained community engagement and coordinated institutional action.

The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police, Sham, Ajaz Malik; Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Khaltsi, Mohd. Sharif; Belim Majid Khan of 37 R&O Flight (Army); Naib Tehsildar Attaullah; Dr. Spalchen Gonbo; Station House Officer Tsewang Norboo; Forest Department Range Officer Deskong Namgail; and officers and officials from the concerned departments.

The District Level NCORD Committee serves as the district’s principal coordination platform for reviewing enforcement measures, intelligence sharing and public outreach aimed at preventing drug abuse and dismantling illicit narcotics networks through a multi-agency approach.
