KHALTSI: A mega drug awareness rally was held from Khaltsi Bus Stand to Zerthang Photang on Thursday as part of the UT-wide Drug Awareness Campaign, with the Sham administration calling for collective action to protect young people from the harmful effects of substance abuse.
The padyatra was organised under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner, Sham, Kunzes Angmo, JKAS, who administered the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) pledge against drug abuse. Participants collectively took the pledge before joining the awareness march.
The rally brought together officers and officials from various departments at the District Headquarters, school staff and students, and representatives of local communities.
Among those participating were I/c Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Khaltsi, Attahullah Khan, personnel from district-level government departments, and staff and students of Government Higher Secondary School Khaltsi, Government Middle School Khaltsi, Lamdon Jamyang School and Moravain Academy School, Khaltsi.
Carrying awareness messages, participants highlighted the physical, psychological and social consequences of drug abuse and stressed the need for prevention and early intervention.
The participation of students and young people was central to the campaign, with the organisers seeking to strengthen awareness among the younger generation and encourage communities to play a greater role in preventing substance abuse.
The programme concluded with a collective message of solidarity and shared responsibility, reaffirming the commitment of the District Sham administration and local communities towards achieving a drug-free Sham. The Khaltsi padyatra formed part of the wider UT-level campaign being conducted across Ladakh under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
