NUBRA: Deputy Commissioner Nubra Mukul Beniwal, IAS, on Thursday urged young people to stay away from substance abuse and make healthy, responsible choices as he led a drug awareness Pad Yatra in Diskit under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
The event was organised by the District Administration Nubra as part of the UT-wide Drug Awareness Campaign and to mark six years of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
The programme began at the DC Office, where Beniwal administered the Nasha Mukt Bharat pledge to students, Heads of Departments, government officials, police personnel and members of the public. Participants collectively pledged to contribute towards building a drug-free Nubra.
The Pad Yatra then passed through Photang Road, Bus Stand and Main Market Chowk before concluding at the DC Office.
Addressing the participants, Beniwal stressed the need for sustained awareness among youth and students about the harmful effects of drug abuse. He said the youth-centric campaign required active engagement and sensitisation of young people to strengthen prevention efforts.
He urged students to remain away from drugs and adopt healthy and responsible lifestyles, while emphasising the role of young people in wider community efforts to prevent substance abuse.
The march was attended by SDM Nubra Mohd Safdar Bhat, JKAS; Tehsildar Diskit; Heads of Departments; officers and officials of various departments; police personnel; school students and members of the public.
The Diskit programme was part of the wider UT-level campaign being conducted across Ladakh to raise awareness about substance abuse and promote community participation in efforts towards a drug-free society.
