NUBRA: Deputy Commissioner Nubra Mukul Beniwal, IAS, on Monday reviewed the progress of Agriculture and Horticulture departments, with discussions covering ongoing schemes, farmer support, agricultural infrastructure and measures to expand sea buckthorn cultivation in the valley.
Beniwal chaired the review meeting at the Conference Hall of the DC Office in Diskit, where officials from both departments presented updates on their respective programmes and activities.
The Agriculture Department gave a PowerPoint presentation on the implementation of various schemes, covering Centrally Sponsored Schemes, ATMA 2026, bio-fertilisers and pesticides, works under the SDP Capital Component, farmer exposure tours, PDMC, KCC-related issues, SMAM and NMEO-05 (2026), besides proposed activities.
The Horticulture Department briefed the Deputy Commissioner on MIDH 2026–27, assistance being provided to farmers, availability of planting material, mushroom cultivation and demonstrations on canopy management in mushroom cultivation.
The department also presented updates on sea buckthorn cultivation and the MIDH Suraksha Portal.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner discussed measures to further promote sea buckthorn cultivation in Nubra, stressing improved cultivation practices and the need to explore suitable support mechanisms to expand its production.
The review meeting was attended by the SDAO, SMS and AEO from the Agriculture Department, along with the District Horticulture Officer and Horticulture Technicians.
