KHALTSI: Deputy Commissioner, Sham, Kunzes Angmo (JKAS) on Thursday reviewed the implementation of Rural Development Department (RDD) schemes across the district and directed officials to ensure timely execution of development projects, effective monitoring and improved functioning of Solid Resource Management Centres (SRMCs).

Chairing a review meeting at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Khaltsi, the Deputy Commissioner assessed the progress of Centrally Sponsored Schemes, flagship programmes and other development initiatives being implemented in the Khaltsi and Saspol blocks.

During the meeting, Block Development Officer, Khaltsi, Dr. Zakir Hussain, and Block Development Officer, Saspol, Manzoor Hussain, presented detailed progress reports highlighting the physical and financial status of ongoing works, achievements recorded and issues requiring administrative attention.

Reviewing the implementation of the schemes, Kunzes Angmo directed officials to maintain transparency in execution and ensure optimum utilisation of government resources. She emphasised that development programmes should be implemented efficiently so that the benefits of government schemes reach eligible beneficiaries without delay.

The Deputy Commissioner also instructed Block Development Officers and other field functionaries to organise regular cleanliness drives across villages and public spaces as part of efforts to improve sanitation and environmental management in the district.

Calling for strict enforcement of the ban on single-use plastic, she directed officials to conduct regular inspections to prevent the use of prohibited plastic items and discourage indiscriminate littering. She further instructed the concerned departments to intensify public awareness campaigns on waste segregation and scientific waste disposal while ensuring that Solid Resource Management Centres function effectively across the district.

The Deputy Commissioner said strengthened waste management practices, coupled with sustained public participation, would contribute to building a cleaner, healthier and environmentally sustainable Sham district.

The meeting was attended by Panchayat Inspectors, Panchayat Secretaries from across Sham district, Supervisors of Solid Resource Management Centres, the Junior Engineer of the Ladakh Renewable Energy Development Agency (LAREDA), and other concerned officials.
