DC Zanskar reviews preparations for Ladakh Zanskar Festival at Sani Lake

ZANSKAR: Sani Lake has been finalised as the venue for the Ladakh Zanskar Festival 2026, with Deputy Commissioner Zanskar Omkar Rajendra Gundage directing district authorities to complete arrangements well in advance for the two-day event scheduled for September 15 and 16.

Gundage chaired a meeting of all District and Sub-Divisional Officers on Monday to review preparations for the festival and called for close coordination among departments to ensure that the event is conducted smoothly.

The meeting examined arrangements covering infrastructure, sanitation, security, transportation, public amenities and other logistical requirements.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned departments to ensure that all necessary preparations are completed within the stipulated timeline, with particular attention to coordination between agencies involved in the festival.

He said the festival assumes added importance as it will be the first major celebration in Zanskar since its declaration as a new district, and stressed that the event should showcase the region’s cultural heritage and provide a positive experience for residents and visitors.

Gundage called upon officers to make adequate arrangements and maintain close coordination throughout the preparation and conduct of the festival.

Following detailed deliberations, Sani Lake was selected as the venue for the 2026 edition.

The Deputy Commissioner further directed all departments to work in tandem and address pending requirements without delay so that infrastructure, public facilities, security arrangements and other logistical preparations are in place before the festival begins. The Ladakh Zanskar Festival is scheduled to be held on September 15 and 16.
