ZANSKAR: In a major administrative outreach initiative, Deputy Commissioner Zanskar Omkar Rajendra Gundage on Sunday visited the remote villages of Rangdum and Abran and reviewed public infrastructure, essential services and developmental requirements, assuring residents that their concerns would be addressed on priority.
The visit assumes administrative importance as it was the first official visit by a Deputy Commissioner to Rangdum since Zanskar attained district status, reflecting the administration’s effort to strengthen governance and public service delivery in some of the region’s most remote habitations.
Accompanied by Tehsildar Mohd Hassan, Tehsildar Tia Suru, Executive Engineers of the Roads and Buildings and Public Health Engineering departments, the Livestock Development Officer, BDO Karsha and other officials, the Deputy Commissioner held detailed interactions with residents and listened to grievances related to drinking water supply, irrigation, road connectivity, healthcare, education, livestock services and other civic requirements.
During the visit, Gundage directed concerned departments to take immediate steps for the resolution of genuine issues raised by villagers and emphasised the need for coordinated action among line departments.
The Deputy Commissioner also inspected the Penzila Top area and reviewed the status of developmental works. He instructed field officers to improve inter-departmental coordination to ensure timely implementation of projects and effective delivery of public services.
Addressing residents, Gundage said the administration remains committed to taking governance to the doorstep of people living in remote areas. He noted that regular field visits enable officials to assess ground realities, monitor development works and respond more effectively to local needs.
Reiterating the administration’s focus on remote regions, he assured residents that the developmental needs of Rangdum and Abran would continue to receive attention and that all genuine demands would be examined for appropriate action.
The visit formed part of the district administration’s ongoing effort to deepen public outreach and strengthen institutional presence in far-flung areas of Zanskar.
