LEH: Sacred Chams (mask dances) performed by monks and a display of traditional Thangka paintings by various monastic institutions drew a large gathering of locals and tourists at the Dharma Centre, Choglamsar, on the second day of the Ladakh Festival 2026.
The programme provided visitors an opportunity to witness traditional Buddhist rituals and explore Ladakh’s monastic art and cultural heritage.
The event was inaugurated by Tsewang Paljor, Deputy Secretary, Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (LAACL), Leh, while Venerable Dorjey, President of the Ladakh Gonpa Association, attended as Chief Guest.
Tashi Dolma, JKAS, Director, Tourism, UT Ladakh, and Faisal Iqbal Tantray, JKAS, Assistant Director, Tourism, Leh, were also present.
The Chams were performed by venerable monks, while Thangka paintings representing the artistic traditions of various monastic institutions were displayed for visitors.
A large gathering of local residents and tourists from different parts of the world attended the programme, witnessing the traditional mask dances and viewing the sacred paintings.
The event formed part of the second day’s programme of the Ladakh Festival and offered visitors an opportunity to experience and appreciate the region’s Buddhist heritage, monastic traditions and cultural practices.
