LEH: The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Leh on Saturday launched a four-day vocational training workshop for teachers from PM SHRI and private schools, with an emphasis on strengthening vocational education, expanding skill-based learning and facilitating the effective integration of Kaushal Bodh into classroom teaching.
Around 25 teachers are participating in the programme, which seeks to equip educators with the knowledge and practical tools required to implement vocational and experiential learning in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The workshop was inaugurated by S.D. Namgyal, Principal, DIET Leh, in the presence of Mirza Mehdi, Senior-most Head of Department, and Smt. Tsering Yangdol, Head of Department and Nodal Officer for Training.
Addressing the participants, Principal Namgyal stressed that vocational education should complement conventional academic instruction to prepare students with practical competencies required in an evolving education landscape. He urged teachers to encourage art, vocational skills and experiential learning in their respective schools, observing that such initiatives would contribute to students’ holistic development while fostering a more engaging learning environment.
The inaugural session also featured a virtual address by Professor Dr. Pankaj Mehta of the Pandit Sunderlal Sharma Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE), Ministry of Education, who outlined the growing role of Kaushal Bodh, introduced for students from Classes VI to XII.
Through a detailed presentation, Dr. Mehta explained the curriculum framework and objectives of the programme, highlighting its role in equipping students with practical competencies, employability skills, creativity and entrepreneurial aptitude. He said vocational education forms an integral component of the National Education Policy 2020, which advocates the integration of skill-based and experiential learning into mainstream school education.
Participants interacted with the national-level expert during the session and expressed their willingness to adopt vocational and skill-oriented teaching practices in their respective schools.
According to the organisers, the workshop will continue over the next four days with intensive hands-on training, demonstrations and practical exercises designed to strengthen teachers’ capacity to incorporate vocational education into classroom instruction and promote skill development among students.
