NUBRA: A new museum at Diskit Monastery was inaugurated on Thursday by Sanjit Rodrigues, Secretary, Culture and Tourism, Union Territory of Ladakh, to preserve and showcase the region’s Buddhist heritage, traditional art and historical artefacts.
The museum aims to protect the cultural legacy associated with the monastery and pass on Ladakh’s traditional knowledge and heritage to future generations, while adding to Nubra’s heritage tourism offerings.
The inauguration was attended by BJP Ladakh president Tashi Gyaltson Khachu, former Chief Executive Councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, a former Member of Parliament from Ladakh, former deputy chairpersons, executive councillors and other public representatives.
Ven. Dorje Stanzin, president of the All Ladakh Gonpa Association, attended as the guest of honour. The Senior Superintendent of Police, Nubra, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, other officials, Ladakh Buddhist Association Nubra president, Goba Association president and local Gobas were also present.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries welcomed the initiative and stressed the need to preserve Ladakh’s traditional knowledge, art, artefacts and Buddhist heritage. They underlined the importance of safeguarding the region’s cultural legacy for future generations.
The museum is expected to provide visitors with an opportunity to engage with Nubra’s cultural and historical traditions and support efforts to promote heritage tourism in the region.
