DRASS: The Drass District Administration, in collaboration with the Shina Writers Association, Ladakh, organised the Humas Literary Conclave, bringing together writers, poets, scholars and literary enthusiasts to promote the Shina language and reaffirm efforts to preserve the region’s indigenous literary and cultural heritage.
Held as part of the run-up to Kargil Vijay Diwas 2026, the conclave received support from J&K Bank and the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL). The event sought to highlight the cultural richness of Drass while encouraging greater engagement with the Shina language among younger generations.
The programme featured literary discussions, poetry recitations and cultural interactions, providing a platform for participants to deliberate on the preservation, promotion and documentation of Shina language and literature.
Speakers stressed the importance of safeguarding indigenous languages as an essential component of the region’s cultural identity and called upon the youth to actively contribute to sustaining Shina’s literary traditions for future generations.
The conclave also showcased the cultural diversity of Drass and underscored the contribution of the Shina-speaking community to Ladakh’s linguistic and cultural landscape.
Organisers said the event formed part of the commemorative activities leading to Kargil Vijay Diwas, combining remembrance with initiatives aimed at celebrating the region’s cultural heritage and strengthening community participation.
The District Administration appreciated the efforts of the Shina Writers Association, sponsoring organisations, participants and volunteers for ensuring the successful conduct of the conclave.
