DRASS: District Police Drass conducted a drug awareness programme at the Taxi Stand on Tuesday, bringing together more than 60 drivers and shopkeepers as part of the ongoing Drug-Free Ladakh campaign.
The programme focused on the harmful effects of drug and substance abuse and sought greater community participation in preventing the spread of narcotic substances in the area.
Sub-Inspector Ilyas Ahmed conducted the awareness session and briefed participants on the adverse effects of substance abuse on physical and mental health, families and society. He urged the participants to remain vigilant and discourage drug abuse within their communities.
The participants were also sensitised to the need for cooperation with the Police in preventing the circulation and use of narcotic substances. The session stressed the importance of early reporting and community vigilance in tackling drug-related activities.
Station House Officer, Police Station Drass, Inspector Abdullah, interacted with the participants and underlined the role of drivers, shopkeepers and other community members in maintaining a safe environment and preventing substance abuse.
He urged them to remain alert to suspicious activities linked to drugs and promptly bring such information to the notice of the Police. He also called for collective support to strengthen efforts against substance abuse under the Drug-Free Ladakh campaign.
The programme formed part of the Police department’s continuing community outreach and awareness efforts aimed at encouraging public participation in preventing drug abuse and promoting a safer environment in Drass.
