EJM College concludes 7th National Social Work week with focus on Mental Health

LEH: The Department of Social Work at Eliezer Joldan Memorial College (EJM College) Leh concluded the 7th National Social Work Week on August 24, with a series of activities focused on mental health, emotional wellbeing and stronger family relationships.

Held from August 17 to 24 under the theme “Strengthening Minds and Strengthening Families,” the week featured academic sessions, competitions and other activities aimed at promoting awareness of mental health and the role of social workers in supporting individuals, families and communities.

The programme opened with an online session on mental health by Dr. Ramesh Krishnan, who discussed psychosocial support and the need to reduce stigma surrounding mental health.

Dr. Tanushree Malakar later delivered a lecture on stress management and family strengthening, focusing on the relationship between individual resilience and healthy family bonds.

Students took part in a poster-making competition centred on mental wellbeing and family support. A debate on the impact of social media on family relationships provided a platform for students to examine contemporary social issues, while a reel-making contest concluded the week with short digital messages on mental strength and family resilience.

A valedictory session marked the conclusion of the programme, during which Head of the Department of Social Work, Dr. Yangchan Dolma, presented a report covering the activities, student participation and outcomes of the week-long programme.

The event also recognised student achievements and underlined the importance of mental health awareness, social support and the role of social workers in building healthier families and resilient communities.

The Department of Social Work reiterated its commitment to preparing students to contribute to society and work towards the wellbeing of individuals, families and communities.
