Fire & Fury Corps showcases drone warfare capabilities in high-altitude terrain

LEH: Demonstrating technological advancement and future-ready military capabilities, the Fire & Fury Corps of the Indian Army today conducted an Inter Formation Drone Proficiency Competition under realistic operational conditions in the challenging high-altitude terrain of Ladakh.

The competition highlighted the Indian Army’s increasing expertise in the employment of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and its preparedness to integrate advanced drone technologies into modern battlefield operations. Participating teams showcased their skills in operating a range of platforms, including VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) fixed-wing drones and quadcopter UAVs, designed for diverse operational roles.

Conducted in one of the world’s most demanding battle environments, the event tested the ability of formations to effectively utilise drone capabilities for surveillance, reconnaissance, target identification and operational missions. The teams demonstrated exceptional precision, situational awareness and technical proficiency while operating in difficult high-altitude conditions characterised by challenging terrain and extreme weather.

The competition also underscored the Army’s focus on harnessing emerging technologies to enhance battlefield transparency, improve decision-making and strengthen operational effectiveness. The seamless integration of niche drone technologies reflected the evolving nature of warfare, where speed, accuracy and real-time intelligence are becoming decisive factors.

The Fire & Fury Corps, deployed along the strategically important northern borders, has consistently focused on innovation and capability enhancement to meet future security challenges. The successful conduct of the drone proficiency competition reaffirmed the Indian Army’s commitment to technological excellence, operational innovation and combat readiness for the battlefield of tomorrow.

The event served as a testament to the Army’s vision of building a technology-enabled force capable of operating effectively across the most demanding terrains and emerging security scenarios.
