Five-Day AI Drone Bootcamp concludes at University of Ladakh’s Kargil Campus

KARGIL: A five-day bootcamp on “AI-Powered Drone Technology: Innovations and Applications” concluded at the University of Ladakh’s Kargil Campus on Friday, equipping students with hands-on exposure to emerging technologies and promoting a vision of a technologically empowered Ladakh.

Jointly organised by NIELIT Srinagar, the University of Kashmir’s North Campus and the University of Ladakh’s Kargil Campus, the programme introduced participants to the growing applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and drone technology, while encouraging them to use technological skills to address challenges in their own region.

The valedictory session began with the National Anthem, followed by students and volunteers from Ladakh and other districts sharing their experiences. Participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to gain practical exposure to drone technology, noting that the training had provided access to equipment and learning opportunities that could otherwise be difficult to afford.

Dr Ghulam Ali, Coordinator of the Department of Chemistry, highlighted the potential of AI to make drones more intelligent, capable and efficient. He stressed that such programmes should not only impart technical knowledge but also encourage students to develop an interest in science, innovation and emerging technologies.

Chief guest Dr Fayaz Ahmad Fayaz, Joint Director, NIELIT Srinagar, said the bootcamp was designed to provide students of Ladakh with meaningful practical exposure to emerging technologies. He commended their enthusiasm and participation throughout the five-day programme.

Fayaz also announced that NIELIT Srinagar plans to introduce a six-month postgraduate diploma in drone technology at the Kargil Campus by the end of October, creating an additional avenue for advanced technical education in the region.

Dr Mahboob Ali, In-charge Administration at the Kargil Campus, thanked University of Ladakh Vice-Chancellor Professor Saket Kushwaha for providing the necessary facilities and continued support. He also acknowledged NIELIT Srinagar for its technical and financial assistance and its commitment to future collaboration.

Emphasising the need to build local technological capacity, Mahboob Ali urged students to apply their knowledge to regional challenges, stressing that the people of Ladakh should develop solutions to the problems confronting their own region.

Fayaz was felicitated during the session, while certificates were distributed among resource persons, staff and participating students. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Qutsia Tabasum, a faculty member at the Kargil Campus, who acknowledged the university leadership, participating institutions, faculty members, resource persons and supporting staff.
