LEH: Former Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Kargil and incumbent Councillor of Silmo Constituency Feroz Ahmad Khan has sought special financial assistance for relief, rehabilitation and restoration of infrastructure and private assets damaged by recent flash floods in Silmo village.
Khan raised the issue during separate meetings with the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh in Leh, where he also pressed for new administrative units and additional funding for incomplete development projects in the Silmo-Batalik region.
Seeking immediate assistance for flood-affected families, Khan stressed the need for both short-term relief and long-term restoration measures to help affected residents rebuild their homes, assets and public infrastructure and restore normalcy in Silmo.
He also demanded the establishment of a Naibat/Tehsil and Block for the Silmo-Batalik area, besides a Sub-Division at Sodh, stating that the proposed administrative arrangements would improve governance and public service delivery while addressing the developmental needs of the remote region.
Khan further sought adequate funding for incomplete projects in Silmo Constituency, including the New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC)-Sharchey Link Road and other ongoing infrastructure works.
During the meetings, he also raised broader developmental concerns relating to Kargil district, with particular emphasis on infrastructure, public facilities and the allocation of resources to remote and border areas.
According to the statement, the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Secretary heard the issues raised by Khan and assured him that the matters would be examined and referred to the concerned departments for appropriate action.
Khan subsequently expressed gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Secretary for their response and for their stated commitment to the development and welfare of the people of Ladakh.
