LEH: The annual Hemis Festival (Hemis Tsechu), one of Ladakh’s most revered Buddhist celebrations dedicated to Guru Padmasambhava, was observed with religious fervour at Hemis Monastery, drawing thousands of devotees and visitors to witness centuries-old spiritual traditions and cultural performances.

Former Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of the BJP-led Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, along with BJP Ladakh President Tashi Gyaltsan Khachu, attended the festival held under the blessings of His Eminence Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche.

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena attended the celebrations as the Chief Guest, while Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra was the Guest of Honour. Senior officers of the Union Territory administration, representatives of the Army and paramilitary forces, and prominent socio-religious leaders were also present.

The festival, held in reverence of Guru Padmasambhava, reflected Ladakh’s enduring Buddhist heritage and spiritual traditions. Devotees gathered in large numbers to participate in prayers and witness the sacred mask dances and traditional rituals that form the centrepiece of the annual celebration.

The Hemis Festival continues to serve as an enduring expression of Ladakh’s religious and cultural identity, attracting pilgrims and visitors while preserving the region’s rich monastic traditions.

On the occasion, prayers were offered for peace, harmony and spiritual well-being.
