GDC Drass participates in Tiger Hill Expedition 2026

DRASS: A team from Government Degree College (GDC) Drass participated in the Tiger Hill Expedition organised by the 16 Grenadiers of the Indian Army on July 17, joining commemorative events ahead of Kargil Vijay Diwas to honour the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War.

The college was represented by Suhail Ahmad Bhat, Instructor (Adventure Travel Guide – High Altitude), who took part in the expedition to the historic Tiger Hill battlefield, where participants retraced one of the defining theatres of the Kargil conflict and interacted with Indian Army personnel.

The expedition offered participants an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the operational challenges faced by soldiers during the war while understanding the military significance of Tiger Hill and the sacrifices that led to its recapture during Operation Vijay.

The participation of GDC Drass formed part of the institution’s broader efforts to promote patriotism, adventure education, physical endurance and youth engagement through collaborations with the armed forces. College authorities said such initiatives expose students and faculty to the region’s military heritage while encouraging responsible adventure tourism and experiential learning.

The GDC Drass team expressed gratitude to Colonel Vikas Dixit, Commanding Officer of the 16 Grenadiers, for extending the opportunity to participate in the expedition and for the arrangements made to facilitate the programme in the Drass Sector.

Principal Nasir-ul-Mehdi Shabani congratulated the college representative on successfully completing the expedition and appreciated the Indian Army, particularly the 16 Grenadiers, for organising an initiative that connected participants with the history of the Kargil War through direct engagement with one of its most iconic battlefields.

He said such programmes help reinforce the values of patriotism, resilience, leadership and national service while encouraging young people to understand the legacy of the armed forces and the sacrifices made in defending the country’s sovereignty.

The expedition concluded with participants paying homage to the soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil War and reaffirming their commitment to preserving the legacy of courage, sacrifice and service associated with Tiger Hill.
