GDC Kargil’s Sankoo Campus students undertake educational tour of Nubra

SANKOO: Students of the Department of Zoology and Botany, Sankoo Campus of Government Degree College (GDC) Kargil, undertook an educational tour of Nubra Valley, gaining field exposure to the region’s biodiversity, ecology, geography and fragile mountain environment.

The tour covered Diskit, Hunder, Turtuk and Panamik, providing students with an opportunity to relate classroom learning to real-world ecological and environmental conditions.

The educational visit was organised to give students practical exposure to natural ecosystems and help them develop a better understanding of the flora, fauna and geographical features of the Nubra region.

The tour was conducted under the guidance of Nodal Officer Dr Saleem Ahmad, whose coordination and support contributed to the organisation of the programme.

Dr Ahmad Ali, Dr Villayat Ali and Ms Tsering Angmo accompanied the students throughout the tour and guided them during field visits and observations.

The faculty members encouraged students to closely observe the region’s flora and fauna and understand the relationship between biodiversity, geography and the mountain environment.

During visits to Diskit, Hunder, Turtuk and Panamik, students explored the distinctive landscapes and ecological characteristics of Nubra Valley. The field experience also enabled them to gain a better understanding of the region’s natural environment and cultural heritage.

The tour further encouraged students to appreciate the need for environmental conservation and responsible interaction with fragile mountain ecosystems.

The accompanying faculty maintained a focus on academic learning and discipline throughout the journey, while students expressed appreciation for the opportunity to gain field-based knowledge beyond the classroom.

The Department of Zoology and Botany said such educational tours provide students with practical learning opportunities and help strengthen their understanding of subjects through direct observation and field experience.
