ZANSKAR: Ghulam Ahmad Khan was elected to lead the Muslim Youth Association Zanskar after securing 74 of the 122 votes polled in an election held on Sunday under the supervision of the parent body, Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam Zanskar.
Khan defeated Imran Mustafa Dar, who received 48 votes, by a margin of 26 votes. The election was held in what the organisers described as a fair, transparent and peaceful manner, with the participation of Muslim youth from Zanskar.
The election featured a direct contest between Khan and Dar, with all 122 votes polled accounted for in the declared results.
Congratulating both candidates for participating in the electoral process, the President of Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam Zanskar appreciated the youth for maintaining a peaceful and democratic atmosphere throughout the election.
The Anjuman president also congratulated Khan on his victory and wished him success in his new responsibility.
The parent body expressed hope that the newly elected leadership of the Muslim Youth Association Zanskar would work towards the welfare, unity and development of youth and the wider community.
The election was conducted under the supervision of Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam Zanskar, which oversees the Muslim Youth Association in the region.
