KARGIL: Police arrested three persons and recovered 7 grams of a heroin-like substance during a routine naka checking operation at Shilikchay on the intervening night of July 18 and 19, dealing another blow to drug trafficking in the district.
According to police, a vehicle bearing Regn No. LA01-3352 was intercepted during the checking operation and subjected to a lawful search in accordance with the provisions of Section 50 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. During the search, officers recovered seven grams of a heroin-like substance from the possession of Mohd. Ali, son of Ghulam Mehdi, a resident of Saliskote.
Police also seized insulin syringes from the vehicle’s co-occupants, identified as Shadab and Feroz Khan, raising suspicion of drug consumption and possible involvement in the offence.
Following the recovery, FIR No. 55/2026 has been registered at Police Station Kargil under Sections 8/21 read with Section 29 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and any possible links to a wider narcotics network.
