LEH: Leh Police have arrested two alleged accused in connection with a house burglary at Igoo village and recovered stolen jewellery worth approximately ₹8 lakh, following an investigation that led the police team from Ladakh to Kashmir.
The case came to light on September 4, 2026, when Padma Yangchen, wife of Dawa Phunchok and resident of Igoo, approached Police Post Kharu, alleging that unidentified persons had broken open the lock of her residential house while the family was away in Leh.
According to the complaint, the burglars stole gold and silver jewellery, a traditional pairaq and precious stones from the house. Following the complaint, FIR No. 191/2026 was registered at Police Station Leh under Sections 305(a) and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the initial investigation, police developed discreet intelligence regarding the suspected accused and their hideouts. Subsequently, a team from Police Station Leh comprising SI Stanzin Konkhain, SI Dorjay Zangpo and other personnel, under the supervision of the SSP Leh, was deputed to Kashmir to pursue the leads.
Acting on credible information and in coordination with Police Station Pattan, Baramulla, the Leh Police team apprehended two alleged main accused from the Pattan area and adjoining jungle terrain. Police recovered stolen jewellery valued at around ₹8 lakh from their possession.
A competent court has granted transit remand for the two accused to facilitate their transfer to Leh for further investigation. Police said interrogation of the accused is underway to recover the remaining stolen articles and establish whether they were involved in any previous offences.
The investigation remains in progress, with police continuing efforts to trace the remaining property and ascertain the complete circumstances surrounding the burglary.
