KARGIL: The Department of Animal Husbandry, Kargil, in collaboration with the 154 Field Regiment of the Indian Army, organised an animal health camp at Choskor in Panikhar, providing veterinary care and livestock management guidance to farmers in the remote area.
The camp, held under the guidance of Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Kargil Dr Gulzar Hussain, examined and treated 34 livestock animals, while 49 livestock farmers received guidance on disease prevention, balanced nutrition, hygiene, reproductive management and timely veterinary care.
A special focus was placed on bovine reproductive health, with veterinary teams conducting pregnancy diagnosis of four bovines using an advanced diagnostic kit. The early detection is expected to help farmers make appropriate feeding and management arrangements during the gestation period.
Mineral mixture supplements were also distributed among farmers to improve the nutritional status, reproductive efficiency, growth and productivity of livestock.
Veterinary teams, including doctors from Mobile Veterinary Units, field veterinary staff and pharmacists, interacted with livestock owners and addressed their concerns related to preventive healthcare, nutrition, disease control and scientific animal husbandry practices.
The doorstep camp assumes importance for communities in remote parts of Kargil, where difficult terrain can make regular access to veterinary services challenging. The outreach is aimed at protecting livestock health while supporting the productivity and livelihoods of farming families dependent on animal husbandry.
The Department appreciated the support extended by the 154 Field Regiment in organising the camp and said it would continue strengthening mobile veterinary outreach and doorstep services across remote areas of Kargil, with emphasis on preventive care, reproductive health, nutrition and sustainable livestock production.
