NUBRA: The process of determining land rights within the Karakoram (Nubra-Shyok) Wildlife Sanctuary came under review on Wednesday as Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nubra Mohd Safdar Bhat, JKAS, chaired a meeting to examine statutory proceedings, sanctuary boundaries and records required for submission to the competent authority.
The meeting, held at the Conference Hall of the SDM Office Complex, focused on completing the statutory process for determining the existence, nature and extent of rights of persons over land falling within the notified limits of the sanctuary.
Bhat, who has been appointed Collector-cum-Settlement Officer for the exercise, reviewed the proceedings undertaken in this regard and discussed the steps required for their completion.
A major part of the deliberations centred on the rationalisation of sanctuary boundaries and determination of rights within the notified area. Officials also discussed the preparation and submission of relevant revenue records and maps to the competent authority.
The exercise involves examination of land and rights-related claims within the sanctuary limits, with the administration required to establish the nature and extent of such rights as part of the statutory proceedings.
The meeting brought together officials and representatives associated with land records, wildlife management and local affairs in Nubra. Those attending included the Tehsildars of Sumoor and Diskit, former Councillors of Nubra, Forest and Wildlife Department officials, the Range Officer, Patwaris and Revenue Department officials, besides religious heads and other stakeholders.
The participation of representatives from different departments and sections of the district enabled discussions on records, maps, land-related matters and the sanctuary’s notified boundaries.
The administration’s review comes as part of the prescribed process concerning land rights within the Karakoram Wildlife Sanctuary, with the completion and submission of the required records expected to facilitate further consideration by the competent authority.
