KARGIL: The Block Development Office (BDO), TSG, on Friday conducted a plastic ban enforcement drive in TSG Market, seizing banned single-use plastic items and imposing penalties on violators as part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen compliance with environmental regulations.
The inspection was carried out on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, and under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), with the objective of enforcing the ban on single-use plastic and promoting environmentally sustainable practices.
The enforcement team comprised Rakesh Singh Batla, Block Development Officer, TSG; Fatimah Jinnah, Panchayat Inspector; Sehrab Hussain, Junior Engineer; concerned Panchayat Secretaries, and officials of the Block Development Office.
During the inspection, the team recovered banned plastic items from commercial establishments found violating the prohibition. The seized material was confiscated, while monetary penalties were imposed on the defaulters in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations.
Officials said the drive forms part of the district administration’s sustained campaign to discourage the manufacture, sale and use of prohibited single-use plastic products and encourage environmentally responsible practices among traders and consumers.
The Block Development Office appealed to shopkeepers, business establishments and the public to refrain from stocking, selling or using banned plastic items and to extend full cooperation in implementing the plastic ban. The office also urged residents to adopt environmentally friendly alternatives and support collective efforts to maintain cleaner markets and promote a healthier and more sustainable environment across the region.
