Kargil Admin Plans utilisation of 25 unused Govt Buildings

10 buildings earmarked for Animal Husbandry, seven for DAY-NRLM and SHGs; five to house ration stores

KARGIL: The Kargil administration has identified around 25 unused and vacant government buildings across the district for immediate utilisation, with several facilities earmarked for departmental offices, ration stores and activities of rural self-help groups.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Kargil Ghulam Mohd (JKAS) on Thursday to review the status of vacant government infrastructure, including buildings identified in the Drass area.

The meeting approved a department-wise plan for putting the identified properties to productive use, with the administration seeking to prevent government assets from deteriorating because of prolonged non-utilisation.

Under the plan, 10 buildings will be utilised by the Chief Animal Husbandry Office in different villages for departmental activities. Another seven government school buildings will be made available to DAY-NRLM and Self Help Groups (SHGs) to support their activities.

The Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department will utilise five buildings for establishing ration stores, while a government building located near the Public Park in Kargil will be considered for use by the Office of the Assistant Director Tourism.

The meeting also examined the possibility of outsourcing government infrastructure and wayside amenities to ensure better utilisation, maintenance and service delivery.

The ADDC directed the concerned departments to coordinate and take necessary measures for the timely utilisation of the identified buildings. He stressed that government assets should not remain idle and must be put to optimum use for public benefit and improved departmental functioning.

The move is aimed at bringing vacant infrastructure back into operational use while reducing the risk of deterioration associated with prolonged closure and neglect.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Planning Officer Kargil, Assistant Commissioner Labour, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Chief Education Officer Kargil, Executive Engineer R&B, besides other concerned officers and officials.

The department-wise allocation of the buildings is expected to provide additional infrastructure for public-facing services and community-based programmes without requiring fresh construction for the identified activities.
