KARGIL: The Kargil District Administration has been conferred a SKOCH Award for its initiative ‘Padega Kargil, Badega Kargil: Transparent, Technology-Driven Public Education Reform’, which seeks to strengthen government school education and improve academic outcomes among students in the district.
The award was received on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner by Chief Education Officer Kargil Sonam Wangchuk and District Informatics Officer Iftikhar Hussain at the 110th SKOCH Summit held on September 26 at Silver Oak Hall, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.
The award recognises a range of interventions undertaken by the Education Department under the initiative, with technology being used to strengthen education governance, support teachers and students, and improve learning outcomes.
The reforms introduced under ‘Padega Kargil, Badega Kargil’ include a Transparent Teacher Transfer Policy, Digital Teacher Transfer Portal, evidence-based learning assessment and rationalisation of teacher deployment based on school enrolment.
The initiative has also included digital classrooms, mobile STEM laboratories, residential remedial coaching, inclusive education for children with special needs and an Aadhaar-based attendance system. Other measures include the establishment of Council Model Schools and interventions aimed at improving the delivery and monitoring of public education across the district.
According to the administration, the initiative has also contributed to improved performance of students in Classes 10 and 12 in CBSE examinations, which it attributed to focused academic interventions and technology-enabled reforms.
The SKOCH Award followed the completion of the evaluation stages prescribed under the SKOCH Award process, which the administration described as an independent and outcome-based assessment.
The recognition comes in the backdrop of efforts by the Kargil administration to use technology, data and institutional reforms to improve the functioning of government schools and strengthen academic support for students.
