KARGIL: Residents of Kargil are set to receive a major citizen service boost as the district is expected to get its long-awaited Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) in the first week of July. The new Passport Seva Kendra in Kargil will enable local delivery of passport-related services, eliminating the need for residents to travel outside the district for passport processing and documentation.
The development was confirmed during a meeting between the Chairman and members of the Haj Committee, UT Ladakh, and Regional Passport Officer Srinagar, B.S. Rawat, where arrangements and operational modalities for the upcoming Kargil Passport Seva Kendra were reviewed.
Once operational, the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) Kargil will provide passport application and related services within the district, offering significant relief to applicants, especially those living in remote and far-flung areas of Kargil who currently undertake long and costly journeys to access passport facilities.
The matter was discussed in detail during a meeting attended by Haj Committee Chairman Ghulam Abbas Abidi and committee members Ghulam Mohammad, Mohammad Hussain, Asha Malo and Zahra Banoo. The delegation described the establishment of the Passport Seva Kendra in Kargil as the fulfilment of a long-pending public demand and a major step towards strengthening citizen-centric governance and public service delivery in the district.
The Haj Committee also appreciated the Regional Passport Office Srinagar for conducting a special Mobile Passport Camp in Kargil on June 15 and 16, which facilitated passport services for Haj pilgrims and other applicants.
Officials stated that the upcoming POPSK Kargil is expected to significantly improve accessibility to passport services, reduce travel expenses, and expedite processing for residents across the district. The Haj Committee reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance public services and ensure easier access to essential government facilities for the people of Ladakh.
