Leh: With the Ladakh Book Festival 2026 set to bring together readers, authors, publishers and other stakeholders from across the region from August 14 to 22, the UT Administration has stepped up preparations to ensure the event emerges as a well-organised and widely accessible literary platform.
Administrative Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Himanshu Gupta, chaired a meeting to review the arrangements for the festival and took stock of various measures being put in place for its successful conduct. The meeting underscored the need to give the festival broad visibility across Ladakh, with the Administration stressing an extensive publicity campaign through multiple media platforms to encourage maximum public participation.
A major focus of the discussions was on the logistical and promotional requirements associated with the festival, including the engagement of vendors for hoardings, posters, branding materials and other publicity-related works. The emphasis on wider outreach is aimed at ensuring that the festival attracts not only the literary community but also students, young readers and the general public.
Representatives of the National Book Trust (NBT), which is associated with the conduct of the Book Fair, apprised the meeting of key requirements for ensuring its smooth functioning. They placed particular emphasis on basic civic amenities at the venue, stressing that adequate sanitation, drinking water and public conveniences must be ensured throughout the festival.
The focus on visitor facilities assumes significance as the week-long event is expected to see participation from authors, publishers, readers and other stakeholders. The NBT representatives emphasised that the venue should provide a clean, safe and comfortable environment for all participants and visitors, making adequate civic infrastructure an integral part of the festival preparations.
The meeting brought together officials from departments directly linked with the organisation and facilitation of the event. Administrative Secretary, School Education, Bhanu Prabha, Additional District Development Commissioner Rigzin Spalgon, Superintendent Engineer, PHE, Syed Mohammad, and Joint Director, DIPR, Mohd Taqi, who participated virtually, attended the meeting. Representatives of the National Book Trust, led by Project In-charge Ashok Dhankar, were also present.
With preparations now being closely monitored ahead of the August 14 opening, the Ladakh Book Festival is being positioned as an important public literary event, with the Administration seeking to combine cultural and literary engagement with effective public outreach and adequate facilities for visitors.
