Lt Gen Pratik Sharma reviews operational readiness in Ladakh forward areas

LEH: Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma visited forward locations in the Union Territory of Ladakh to review the operational preparedness of troops deployed in the strategically important high-altitude region, with a particular focus on maintaining a high state of readiness amid challenging terrain and weather conditions.

During his visit, Lt Gen Sharma interacted with troops serving at forward locations and assessed their preparedness to discharge operational responsibilities in one of the most demanding environments in which the Indian Army operates. The visit also provided an opportunity to engage directly with personnel deployed in the high-altitude areas and review the human element underpinning sustained operational readiness.

The Army Commander commended all ranks for their exemplary professionalism, high morale, unwavering vigilance and steadfast commitment to duty, acknowledging the demanding conditions under which troops continue to perform their responsibilities.

Ladakh’s high-altitude environment places extraordinary demands on personnel, requiring sustained physical conditioning, mental resilience, discipline and constant alertness. Against this backdrop, Lt Gen Sharma’s interaction with troops underlined the importance of maintaining operational preparedness not merely as a periodic exercise, but as a continuous requirement.

Lt Gen Sharma underscored the importance of discipline, physical fitness and regular training, while stressing that these must increasingly be complemented by innovation, synergy and enhancement of technological capabilities. The objective, he emphasised, is to ensure that troops remain mission-ready across domains and continue to strive for excellence in every sphere.

The emphasis on technology assumes particular significance in high-altitude operational environments, where terrain, weather, distances and logistical constraints can pose complex challenges. Greater technology absorption and innovative operational approaches can strengthen surveillance, communication, mobility, situational awareness and the overall ability of formations to respond rapidly to emerging contingencies.
