LEH: The Ladakh Territorial Congress Committee (LTCC) on Wednesday congratulated Ali Mohamad on being conferred the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, describing the national honour as recognition of his lifelong contribution to preserving and promoting Ladakh’s traditional Surna (Shanaya) musical heritage.
In a statement issued by the District Congress Committee (DCC), Leh, LTCC President Rigzin Jora, along with Women’s Wing President Stanzin Dolker, DCC President Rigzin Namgail, Advocate Deachen Angmo, Youth Congress President Tundup Norbo and other party leaders, extended their greetings to the awardee.
The committee said the recognition was not only a personal milestone for Ali Mohamad but also a matter of pride for the Union Territory, as it acknowledged the rich cultural and musical traditions of Ladakh at the national level.
The LTCC noted that Ali Mohamad’s sustained efforts to preserve the traditional Surna, also known as Shanaya, have played an important role in safeguarding the region’s folk music heritage and promoting it beyond Ladakh.
The party further observed that such achievements inspire younger generations to value and preserve indigenous art forms while reinforcing the need to protect Ladakh’s cultural legacy for the future.
The committee wished Ali Mohamad good health and continued success, expressing hope that he would continue to bring laurels to Ladakh through his dedication to traditional music.
