Mahabodhi School creates history with double triumph in Referee Cup Football tournament

LEH/MYSORE: Mahabodhi School has secured both the Under-14 and Under-16 titles in the Referee Cup 2026–27 Inter-School Football Tournament, completing a double championship at the University of Mysore grounds.

The twin victories capped an impressive campaign for the school’s football programme, with players also earning several individual honours across both age groups.

The Under-14 side remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, opening its campaign with a 4-0 victory before registering a 2-0 win in the second match. The team sealed the championship with another commanding 4-0 victory in the final round, finishing the tournament without conceding a defeat.

The Under-16 team also delivered a consistent performance. After beginning with a 2-0 victory, the side booked its place in the final by winning a closely contested semi-final through a penalty shootout. It then edged past its opponents 1-0 in the final to lift the championship trophy.

Mahabodhi School’s success was further highlighted by individual awards won by its players. In the Under-14 category, the team secured the honours for Best Defender, Best Goalkeeper, and Top Goalscorer, while the Under-16 side produced the tournament’s Top Goalscorer.

The school described the achievement as the result of the dedication, discipline and teamwork displayed by the players, coaches and support staff throughout the competition.

The double championship marks one of the school’s most successful performances in inter-school football and adds another chapter to its growing sporting achievements.
