MC Leh honours over 200 Safai Mitras under Swachhta Hi Seva

LEH: More than 200 sanitation workers were honoured in Leh on Saturday in recognition of their year-round efforts to maintain cleanliness and hygiene across the municipal area, as the Municipal Committee observed Swachhta Hi Seva 2026.

The programme, organised by the SBM-U 2.0 Wing of the Municipal Committee, Leh, was held under this year’s theme, “Samman Safai Mitron Ka, Sankalp Swachh Bharat Ka”, following directions from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE).

The event was chaired by Municipal Committee Leh Executive Officer Atul Mankotia (JKAS) and attended by officials and staff of the civic body along with around 200 sanitation workers.

The programme centred on recognising the contribution of Safai Mitras to maintaining cleanliness in Leh throughout the year. As part of the recognition, gift hampers were distributed among the sanitation workers in appreciation of their service and efforts.

The event also provided a platform for sanitation workers to raise their grievances, concerns and suggestions directly with the Executive Officer during an interactive session.

Mankotia heard the issues raised by the workers and assured them that their concerns would be examined and addressed within the stipulated timeframe.

The Municipal Committee said the programme reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare, dignity and well-being of its sanitation workforce. It also underlined the role of sanitation workers in maintaining a clean and healthy municipal area and in furthering the objectives of the Swachh Bharat initiative.
